1996 saw the start of the Leeds Mela.
It was the first time something of this magnitude and content had been brought to Leeds, a city that welcomes so many different customs.
It proved to be long over due!
The crowds flocked to Rounday Park and embraced the festival that encouraged the education and celebration of a variety of cultures without the feeling of prejudice. Spectators were able to partake in experiencing different foods, learning about cultures and experience the popularity surrounding bangra music.
It set the high standard that everyone partaking in the Mela has come to expect.
